(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Experience Islam Week is organised by the University of Cambridge Islamic Society and includes film screenings and talks on subjects like The Quran and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Safian Younas, president of the Islamic Society, said the week was to encourage engagement when discussing religions.
“People often find it is hard to start a conversation about religion in normal circumstances, but a casual chat can often be the most effective way,” he said.
“The week is to challenge misconceptions out there about the religion of Islam. The place where the public get a lot of their information from is newspapers and unfortunately there is a lot of negative media.”
Mr Younas said so far people of all sort of religious direction have become involved in discussions.
He added: “I think you learn a lot about your own faith when discuss it with other people.
“We have tried to go back to the basics of the faith which people don’t know because of the disproportionate coverage of the other things. We want to look at the simple elements of the faith.”
